In an ink jet recording device (1), a fixed signal output section (461) sends to a head driving circuit (50) a signal, as a mode fixing signal (SP), indicating that ink droplets should not be discharged for nozzle openings (111) in a group not used for recording. On the basis of the mode fixing signal (SP), the mode fixing circuit (18) of the head driving circuit (50) fixes the nozzle openings (111) in the corresponding group under the condition that they should not discharge ink droplets. Therefore, concerning the group that do not discharge ink droplets, there is no need to take the trouble to effect serial conversion and serial transfer of the data ("0" data) as recording data (S1), which data ("0") indicates that ink droplets should not be discharged, so that the wasteful processing time can be saved.
