A metallic substrate is claimed, especially car bodywork, having an adhesive anticorrosion coating containing adhesion-promoting polymers (I) consisting of (a) homo- or copolymers of (a1) bis-maleimides and/or (a2) maleimide-terminated oligomers and/or (a3) maleimide-terminated polymers, and/or (b) copolymers of these compounds and organic compounds (b1) with polymerisable functional groups. Also claimed is a process for applying an anticorrosion coating to a substrate as above before painting.
