A recording material cutting device capable of simplifying a construction, reducing a size, and increasing the straightness of a recording material at a cut portion despite the fact that it is provided with a mechanism to cut the recording material using the entire blade of a cutter blade to increase the service life of the cutter blade, wherein, at the start of cutting, the recording material (113) is cut off deepest in depth of cut near a base thereof by the cutter blade (130), a cutter holder (122) is raised gradually and the depth of the cutter blade (130) to cut into the recording material (113) is decreased gradually when an entire cutter unit (112) is moved in C-direction while a retaining member (123) is being in contact with the raised surface of a raised part (132), the height of the cutter holder (122) becomes maximum and also the depth of cut of the cutter blade (130) becomes shallowest when the cutter holder reaches the center of the raised part (132) of which center is formed higher, and the cutter blade (130) cuts off the recording material (113) near the tip thereof and, when it moves to the right, the depth of cut of the cutter blade (130) is increased gradually again.
