Detecting, isolating and/or quantifying basophils, mast cells, their precursors and/or cell surface structures using antibodies (I), produced by hybridoma cells deposited as DSM ACC 2297 and designated 97A6, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) examining allergies, comprising: (a) incubating a blood sample with an allergen, which is thought to cause an allergic reaction; (b) incubating the blood sample with (I); and (c) quantifying the number of cells bound to (I); (2) providing haematopoietic precursor cells, which can differentiate into mast cells or basophils, comprising: (a) isolating bone marrow cells from an organism; (b) incubating the bone marrow cells with (I); and (c) isolating the antibody-bound cells using FACS or MACS; (3) pure populations of basophils, mast cells or their precursor cells, which have been bound specifically by (I); (4) a reagent for binding basophils, mast cells or their precursors, comprising (I); (5) a protein complex, which is found on the cell surface and can be bound to (I) and has a molecular weight of 150 or 270 kDa using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide electrophoresis; (6) a nucleic acid encoding at least one protein sequence from the protein complex of (5); and (7) a vector comprising the nucleic acid from (6).
