The present invention relates to a device designed to monitor that a computer comprising at least one processor is operating in the intended manner. The computer is equipped with an operating system (2) of a type designed to simultaneously execute several software items, so that they are active for processor handling in a time-sharing manner. The device comprises a software component (5a, 5b) communicating with the operating system's kernel, or core, and designed to monitor the operation of one or more of the software items executed and on registering faults in one of the software items monitored, to execute one or more fault handling instructions. A hardware component (6) communicating with the software component (5a, 5b) is designed to receive from the software component (5a, 5b) one or some of the fault handling instructions (18) for effecting these.
