A plastic optical fiber which comprises a core part comprising a polymer material and, doped therein, an optoactive medium, wherein the polymer material is a copolymer of a first monomer material having no hydroxyl groups and a second monomer material having a hydroxyl group, and the proportion of the amount of the second monomer material to that of the first monomer material is from 5 wt % to 15 wt %. The plastic optical fiber has improved durability.
