A group of matched, self-resonant high Q, high temperature superconducting coils (10) are positioned in a symmetric array (18) configuration and tuned using inductive coupling without need of complex circuitry. In the array, each coil is positioned to be magnetically equivalent to other coils in the array, for example, having the same number of neighbors, nearest neighbors, spacing to neighbors. The array acts as a single resonant system. In a coherent mode, all currents are in phase at resonance.
