A friction part, with an oxygen-deficient metal oxide coating stabilized against oxidation by one or more specified trace elements, is new. An i. c. engine friction part has a coating layer of an oxygen-deficient metal oxide or precursor containing one or more tr elements, which are selected from Al, Ti, Zr, Co, Cr, Fe, Ni, Mn, Nb and K and which are different from the metal of the metal oxide, for stabilizing the metal oxide against oxidation. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) manufactur the above friction part, comprising forming the layer by CVD, PVD, thermal spraying, thermochemical diffusion treatment, electroplating or chemical plating; (ii) use of the trace elements described above to stabilize anti-wear coatings based on oxygen-deficient metal oxides; and (iii) a system consisting of a first friction element coated with an oxygen-deficient metal o layer and a second element coated with an oxide of Al, Ti, Zr, Co, Cr, Fe, Ni, Mn, Nb and K.
|
