An article includes a rigid element part of which has a concave cross section and a rigid reinforcement for the element. The reinforcement is made of thermoplastic foam and some/all of it lies in the concave space formed by the rigid element. Independent claims are included for the following: (a) manufacturing the above article by placing the preformed rigid element into a mould and injecting molten thermoplastic containing a foaming agent; (b) as (a) where the foaming thermoplastic is injected into the concave space and molten thermoplastic without any foaming agent is co-injected onto the outside of the concave space; and (c) modification of (b) where the two types of thermoplastic are injected sequentially.
