Dibenzoylmethane derivatives, process for the preparation of the same and uses thereof

Novel dibenzoylmethane derivatives of general formula (1) which have a high ultraviolet-absorbing power and high light stability and exhibit an ability to inhibit discoloration even in the presence of a metal ion; a process for the preparation of the derivatives; and ultraviolet absorbers and cosmetics characterized by containing the same wherein R<1> to R<6> are each a member selected from among hydrogen, alkyl and alkoxy, with the provisos that when R<1> is alkyl, R<4> is alkoxy, while when R<1> is alkoxy, R<4> is alkyl, and that either of R<1> and R<4> and either of R<2> and R<5> are selected from the above members except hydrogen.
