The system enables gearbox losses to be reduced by direct coupling of IC engine at high speed. The hybrid engine unit (10) for a motor vehicle is able to operate in various modes, and includes an epicycle gear train (12) with the ring (28), the planetary gear (26) and the satellite carrier (24) linked to the outputs of different power sources. These include a first electrical machine (16), and second electrical machine (18) and an IC engine (14). A bridge (20) is provided to transmit the final power to the road wheels. The electrical machines are capable of operating equally as motors or generators. A specific coupling element (15) allows selective direct connection of the IC engine output to the bridge (20). |
