The X-ray image intensifier has a supported surface getter material (9) close to its interior wall. An Independent claim is also included for production of the above X-ray image intensifier, by mounting a surface getter device (7), comprising a getter material (9) deposited on a support (8), close to the interior wall of the intensifier tube, evacuating and sealing the tube and then heating the getter device.
