Upon a call, an information identification section (23a) of a CPU (23) identifies the type of information, such as voice information, character information, and voice information plus image information, from type information appended to incoming call information as a header, and the display section including a monitor (21) displays the type. If the type is voice information or character information, an application for performing a telephone or data communication function is run by the user who makes a connection. For voice information plus image information, on the other hand, an application for performing a videophone function is run after the line is connected.
