In order to determine the quality of milk during the milking process, an automatic milking system is provided with a distributing valve (301) having an inlet (301) and several outlets (303, 311) for milk and comprising a measuri ng device and a controlling computer. The measuring device contains a detector device for automatic detection of particles in the flow of milk. The controlling computer controls the distributing valve according to the amount of particles determined in the milk, whereby lower quality milk is singled o ut.
