Novel compounds which are compounds represented by general formula (1) or salts thereof. They are useful as a component of a polyester, polyamide, etc. When the compounds wherein Y1, Y2, Y3, and/or Y4 is carboxyl are used especially as a component of a liquid-crystal polymer, weld strength and anisotropy can be greatly improved.
