Measurement of the forces on test bodies to accurately determine the friction force between them when a translational force is applied with improved accuracy obtained by taking into account movement of a supporting base

Device has two bodies (10, 11) that move relative to each other and a loading device for application of a normal force (16) to the first of the two bodies. A first sensor produces (8) a signal that is proportional to the force required to hold or move the test body (10) . A base body (2) holds the test body and a second sensor (18) produces a signal representative of movement of the base body. An analysis unit uses the signals from both first and second sensors to produce a measurement of the friction force that takes into account the contribution of the movement of the base body. An Independent claim is made for a procedure for measurement of friction force between two bodies.
