The vertical columnns (1,1') are provided with slots or bores (1.51, 1.52, 1.53, 1.54) at the back, invisible for the customer. A hook or bent extension (2.11, 2.12) protrudes from the central segment (2.1) of the U-shaped holding elements (2) in order to be inserted into the slot or bore (1.51, 1.52, 1.53, 1.54). The side segment (2.2, 2.3) of the holding element (2) can either be folded over in order to form a platform (2.21, 2.22, 2.23) for a shelf (4) to lie on, or fitted with slots (9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4) for the insertion of holding elements (6), carrying the items for display. There are several combinations and versions of the display system available depending on the kind of goods being sold at the specific shop or to be displayed at a fair.
