The invention relates to a method for carrying out electrophoretic immersion-enameling while decreasing the loss of edges during baking by; 1) electrically precipitating a protective layer, said layer consisting of an electrically precipitable coating agent which contains a thermally hardenable binding agent system with a content of olefinically unsaturated double covalent bonds that can be radically polymerized using UV radiation, on an electrically conductive substrate that has edges, by; 2) at least partially irradiating the electrically precipitated protective layer with UV while stopping short of completely hardening the same, and by; 3) completely hardening the electrically precipitated protective layer by baking.
