The invention relates to a roasting device and a roasting method which can be carried out using said roasting device. The individual characteristics of the device and the steps contained in the method are optimized in relation to prior art. According to the invention, a roasting device comprises a roasting hopper (7), in which a heated stream of roasting air, provided by a forced draught fan (1) passes through a heating element (4) and is fed vertically from below through an inlet air pipe (31) and a sieve plate (6). Said roasting device has a weighing device, whereby the roasting hopper (7), or a hopper sieve which is suspended therein and can move freely, is located against or on a weighing device which is mounted on a device frame (16).
