The combustion parameters detection method uses evaluation of the ion current signal characteristic (1) provided by an ion current sensor positioned within the engine combustion chamber, by detection of the ion current peak value (6) and the flank points (7,8) of the flanks on either side of the peak value at which the amplitude is a given fraction of the peak value, for determining the position of the local maxima (4) of the ion current characteristic.
