Procedure uses a light sensitive video camera (3, 5) arranged on a vehicle windscreen pointing forward to determine the surrounding light intensity. The signals from the video cameras are used to control how brightly light emitting diodes (LEDs) shine in dashboard displays. An Independent claim is made for a device for controlling display brightness comprising video-cameras (3, 5) and one or more control units for controlling the brightness of dashboard displays. One of the cameras (3) is directed forwards in the direction of motion of the vehicle.
