PURPOSE: A shadow mask for a color CRT is provided to accomplish an improved luminance while maintaining color purity characteristic at a screen. CONSTITUTION: A shadow mask(70) has a plurality of elliptical openings(70a). The openings have two pairs of opening facing with each other from a predetermined opening as a base. A minor axis is a direction of a pair of openings positioned in a shortest distance from a reference opening. A major axis is a direction of a pair of openings positioned in a longest distance from the reference opening. Thus, a shadow mask having an improved transmittance while maintaining minimum distance between openings can be obtained.
