PURPOSE: A red tide control agent is provided, which are characterized in that organic acid and sulfuric acid ion that are cause of red tide are removed by using magnesium hydroxide slurry generated in production of seawater magnesia. CONSTITUTION: Magnesium ion and hydroxyl ion are dissociated from magnesium hydroxide slurry in seawater. Magnesium ion and hydroxyl ion generate alkali film at surface of organic material, so, activity of sulfate reducing bacteria and generation of hydrogen sulfide are restrained. Magnesium ion and hydroxyl ion react with hydrogen sulfide and sulfate, so magnesium sulfate is generated. Magnesium sulfate is dissolved in seawater, so, film is not formed at submarine field of sea. So that, aquatic life is not injured. Magnesium ion and hydroxyl ion also convert orthophosphate into inert phosphate. Eventually, red tide is prevented. Granular magnesium hydroxide, which is made by drying of magnesium hydroxide slurry, is applicable to red tide prevention agent. Granular magnesium hydroxide has a diameter of 3-10 mm. Magnesium hydroxide slurry is applied to red tide using a pipe, and granular magnesium hydroxide is sprayed.
