PURPOSE: An active emitting liquid crystal display is to improve a view angle and a contrast by shielding an incident light passing through a liquid crystal layer, thereby preventing an image scattering in a phosphorous film. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal layer(4) adjacent to a backlight(2) comprises polarizing plates attached to each a front and rear surface, and a transparent electrode(4c,4d) is formed between a pair of glass substrates. A liquid crystal material(4e) is filled between the pair of glass substrates. A front glass plate(12) with a phosphorous film(10) coated on internal surface is installed on a front surface of the liquid crystal layer. To realize a light transmitted the liquid crystal layer and a light emitted from the phosphorous film as a same image, a partition(40) having a light selecting functions formed in the liquid crystal layer. The partition is made of carbon absorbing the light. The partition is formed on the rear glass substrate.
