PURPOSE: A method for setting up functions/operations of a radio interface unit(RIU) in a wireless local loop(WLL) system is provided to make the RIU recognize a request signal for using RIU additional functions inputted from a general telephone, so that a general telephone user easily set up modes and the operations of the RIU. CONSTITUTION: If a specific button of a telephone is inputted, the button is examined whether the button is for a radio interface unit(RIU) mode setup command or for an RIU operation performing command. If the button is for the RIU mode setup command, a response is generated with a tone or a sound. If a command is inputted from the telephone, the command is analyzed. If the command is for an alarm mode setup command, the RIU is set up as an alarm function mode. If the command is for an automatic response mode setup command, the RIU is set up as an automatic response function mode. If the command is for an operation performing command, a response is generated with a tone or a sound. If a command is inputted from the telephone, the command is analyzed. If the command is a busy third person calling command, a third person calling process is performed. If the command is an interworking function(IWF) command, an IWF process is performed.
