PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for estimating and correcting the frequency offset in the mobile communication system are provided to improve cell searching performance. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for estimating and correcting the frequency offset in the mobile communication system is comprised of a cell probe(310) and a frequency offset estimation and correction part(320). The cell probe(310) carries out an operation to search a cell, to which the present mobile station is subordinated, by data received from a base station. The frequency offset estimation and correction part(320) carries out an operation to estimate and correct the frequency offset using the first synchronization channel received from the base station when a time slot synchronization complete signal is provided from the cell probe(310).
