发明名称 Improvements in or relating to methods and apparatus for foam generation
摘要 628,465. Making foam. ROCKWOOD SPRINKLER CO. OF MASSACHUSETTS. April 30, 1946, No. 12999. Convention date, May 8, 1945. [Class 47 (ii)] A foam generating nozzle comprises an inlet section 12 for foaming liquid, a hood 20, and a curved jet plate 10 formed with diverging orifices 14 each comprising two inclined passages 16. Liquid under pressure forced through the orifices is converted into a mist of fine droplets which entrains air through apertures 22 in the hood to form foam, the latter being refined by passage through a grid or screen 36 with a mesh of three to ten per inch. Preferably, a plate 24, with holes 32 aligned with the orifices 14, is spaced from the plate 10 so that some of the air entering at 22 is diverted into close association with the orifices 14. Liquid pressures greater than thirty pounds per square inch and air-toliquid ratios between five and eight to one are used. The nozzle is intended to produce a broadly divergent discharge of foam capable of blanketing a large area of fire and of shielding the operator of the nozzle from the heat. A concentrating extension hood may be provided, which first converges from the hood 20 and then is cylindrical. The nozzle may be used for producing an extinguishing mist or fog of water alone. Specifications 403,291 and 564,199, [Group XXIX], are referred to.
