PURPOSE: A method and a device for controlling tracking, are provided to stably perform tracking control for an optical disk in a land/groove recording system, without discriminating a land/groove. CONSTITUTION: The first BPF(Band Pass Filter)(42) extracts the first wobbling signal(WS1) formed in outer circumference of a land/groove track, and the second BPF(44) extracts the second wobbling signal(WS2) formed in inner circumference of the land/groove track. An adder(46) adds the first and the second wobbling signals(WS1,WS2), to generate an addition signal(SM). A subtracter(48) subtracts the second wobbling signal(WS2) from the first wobbling signal(WS1), to generate a difference signal(SS). A mixer(50) multiplies the addition signal(SM) and the difference signal(SS), to detect a tracking error signal(ETe). A tracking controller(54) performs tracking control, based on the tracking error signal(ETe).
