PURPOSE: A back light unit for a liquid crystal display is provided to prevent a leakage of a light beam output from a lamp by restricting a gap between a lamp cover and a light guide plate. CONSTITUTION: A back light unit for a liquid crystal display comprises a lamp, a lamp cover(25), a light guide plate(21), and a reflective plate(24). The lamp cover comprises an upper plate and a lower plate. The lamp cover covers a lamp and defines an emitting area of a light output from the lamp. The light guide plate is arranged at a side portion of the lamp. The light guide plate comprises a receiving area corresponding to the emitting area to receive the emitted light and transmit the light to a video panel(1). The reflective plate is arranged at a lower face of the light guide plate to receive the light from the light guide plate and transmit the light to the video panel.
