PURPOSE: A sliding plate refractory for controlling molten-metal flow is provided to improve strength and prevent being cracked due to thermal shock and oxidation by adding large amount of ultra-fine Al2O3, and ZrO2-mullite or Al2O3-ZrO2. CONSTITUTION: The sliding plate (1) refractory comprises 60-110 pts.wt. of sintered or molten Al2O3 being several particle diameters, 10-20 pts.wt. of plastic Al2O3 being up to 50 micrometer in particle diameter, 15-40 pts.wt. of sintered or molten ZrO2-mullite (containing 27-39 wt.% of ZrO2, 40-46 wt.% of Al2O3 and 15-20wt% of SiO2), 1-3 pts.wt. of Si, 1-8 pts.wt. of C, and 0.5-4.0 pts.wt. of anti-oxidant, optionally 5-20 pts.wt. of Al2O3-ZrO2 (containing 90-50 wt.% of Al2O3 and 10-50 wt.% of ZrO2). The particle diameters of desirable Al2O3 being 4-1, 1-0.22, up to 0.2 and up to 0.04mm are 15-25, 25-45, 10-20, 10-20 pts.wt., respectively.
