PURPOSE: An apparatus for displaying a character on a television and a method thereof are provided to transmit character information as well as code information to vary the size of the character based on emotional status of a sender. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for displaying a character on a television includes a character information decoder(13), a character information processor(14), a controller(16), an image processor(17) and a display(19). The character information decoder(13) extracts character information from a broadcasting signal and decodes the same. The character information processor(14) detects a character size code from character information decoded in the character information decoder and converts the detected character size code into corresponding on screen display format. The controller(16) turns on/off the character information processor with response to an order from a user and configures an on screen display(OSD) based on movement. The image processor(17) processes the OSD signal from the character information processor and the controller. The display(19) displays the output of the image processor. |
