PURPOSE: A cosmetic material containing Moutan Cortex extract is provided, which shows good removing effect of free-radicals, anti-oxidant effect, whitening effect, and does not gives any problem in safety. CONSTITUTION: A process for the preparation of cosmetic material containing Moutan Cortex extract comprises of: drying the Moutan Cortex completely; adding more than one of solvent selected from a group consisting of water, ethanol, methanol, propanol, butanol, acetone, ethylacetate, hexane, benzene, chloroform, glycerin, ethyleneglycol, and propyleneglycol, and extracting by heating at 50-95°C for 4-20hrs or soaling for 1-15days, at 5-37°C; filtering with Wattman no.2 filter sheath; concentrating under decompression with a refrigerating condenser-attached distiller at 60°C to get the dried Moutan Cortex extract 105g(dried weight). The cosmetic material contains the Moutan Cortex extract 0.001-10wt.%, desirably 0.001-5wt.%.
