PURPOSE: An optical device of a sheet structure and a backlight unit using the same are to vertically stand up a light passing at a slanted angle to a plane. CONSTITUTION: The optical device comprises a transmitting sheet(26) made of a transparent material, and a prism(28) disposed at parallel on the transmitting sheet. The transmitting sheet and the prism are integrally made of a transparent material having a reflective rate of 1.5 to 1.65. The transparent material comprises acrylic material and polyester material such as polyethylene terephthalate. The prism has a vertical angle of 50 to 70 degrees. A width of the prism is 10 to 100 micrometers, and a height is 5 to 50 micrometers. The backlight unit comprises a light source, a light guide having a light incident surface and a light reflective surface, and a prism panel having a vertical angle of 50 to 70 degrees.
