摘要 PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for normalizing a state value of a component decoder in a mobile communication system is provided to remove an error according to an overflow and efficiently use a memory by normalizing an accumulation state value performed for a decoding. CONSTITUTION: A metric value for a virtual path and a competitor path metric value are existed in each state. State values of a current state are inputted to a corresponding subtracter(301). A comparator(117) detects the metric value for a virtual path among state values of current states, respectively. If the metric value for a virtual path is detected, the comparator(117) searches a minimum metric value for a virtual path among detected survive path metric values and outputs the searched minimum metric value for a virtual path to all subtracters(301). Subtracters(301) receive the corresponding metric value for a virtual path and the minimum metric value for a virtual path and subtract the minimum metric value for a virtual path from the corresponding metric value for a virtual path to output a normalized state value.
