PURPOSE: A method for calculating a recording linear velocity of an optical disk drive, is provided to normally calculate a recording linear without an error even in a state that a rotation velocity of a spindle motor is not stabilized, and to count frames arrange in an optical disk layer. CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer(38) checks whether loading is completed. If completed, the microcomputer(38) starts a spindle motor(14). The microcomputer(38) controls a transfer motor(16), to move an optical pickup(12) to a target track. The microcomputer(38) checks whether a movement is completed, to check whether the optical pickup(12) exists in the target track. If the optical pickup(12) exists in the target track, the microcomputer(38) counts frame synchronizing detection signals inputted from a digital signal processor(32) during one-rotation time of the spindle motor(14). The microcomputer(38) converts a counted number into a recording linear velocity, to decide an RPM(Revolution Per Minute) of the spindle motor(14).
