PURPOSE: An apparatus and method of compensating for a non-linear output property of an image forming system engine is to prevent a distortion phenomenon of an image due to an energy interference between adjacent pixels. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for compensating for a non-linear output property of an image forming system engine comprises a controller for storing a tuning coefficient in an optional direction with respect to each pixel of an image data and controlling a printing operation of a printer, a memory(100) for storing information of each pixel of the image data, and a laser output controlling portion(350) for calculating an interference value showing an interference value between adjacent pixels and adding or subtracting an output period of a laser diode according to the calculated interference value and a critical value and printing an image according to the image data. In the apparatus, the image forming system is a color laser beam printer. The tuning coefficient is comprised of tuning coefficients between the adjacent pixels in a horizontal, vertical, and slant line direction.
