The door stop comprises a sealed rigid casing (1) containing a fluid. A piston (3) pivoted in the casing by a spindle (2) subdivides the casing into two variable volume chambers (51,52). The piston has two directional valves (41,42) with opposite release thresholds. Each valve controls a narrow passage connecting the two chambers when the pressure in one of them exceeds that in the other by a difference greater than the threshold of the corresponding valve in the direction of fluid flow from the high pressure chamber to the other.
