PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for cooling a coagulable substance fluidized at high temp. like pyrolysis residue resulting from the pyrolysis of waste plastic to solidify the same into a lumpy or powdery form easy to handle. SOLUTION: A coagulable substance solidifying apparatus 10 receives, for example, the pyrolysis residue flowing out of a pyrolytic tank for pyrolyzing waste plastic broken pieces to discharge pyrolysis residue to solidify the same into a lumpy or powdery form. The apparatus 10 is equipped with a hermetically closed water tank 12 housing water, the flow-down nozzle 14 connected to the residue discharge port E of the pyrolytic tank to allow pyrolysis residue to flow down toward the lower water tank 12, the spray nozzle 16 provided just under the flow-down nozzle 14 and horizontally spraying water on the pyrolysis residue flowing down from the flow-down nozzle 14 to quench the same to form a lumpy or powdery solid, a conveyer 18 for discharging lumps of the solidified pyrolysis residue out of the water tank and the hopper 20 provided in the water tank 12 to accumulate the solidified lumps flowing down in water on the conveyor 18.
