PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a baggage retaining pole capable of surely securing even to a loading space with a movable side wall as is the case of a wing car and not falling therefrom even at traveling. SOLUTION: This pole comprises a large diameter pipe 2, a small diameter pipe 1 being freely insertable therethrough, a linear rack 4 provided from a halfway of the small diameter pipe 1 toward an insertion port of the large diameter pipe 2, a turnable single tooth provided near the insertion port of the large diameter pipe 2 for securing the rack 4 at an arbitrary position, and a handle 11 integrally turning with the single tooth, and securing parts 6, 9 being detachable against both side walls of a loading space are provided at the insertion port of the large diameter pipe 2 and the opposite end of the small diameter pipe 1, respectively. The pole is also provided with a handle fixation claw for regulating turn of the handle under the condition that the single tooth meshes with an arbitrary tooth of the rack 4, and a claw presser for holding the handle fixation claw is provided on the large diameter pipe 2 side.
