PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage device capable of suppressing quantity of data to be stored as minimum and suitable for high speed extraction of information, waveform drawing, etc., and a data storing method. SOLUTION: Time data and value data corresponding to a specified signal are extracted from a data file 21 and provided to a time storage and control circuit 23 and a value storage circuit 26 by a reading circuit 22. The time data is separated into pieces of high-order and low-order time data, differential data between the inputted time data and the previous time data is calculated, the differential data is compared with the maximum quantity Tmax of the low- order time data, when the differential data is larger than Tmax as a result of comparison, the high-order time data, the low-order time data and the value data are stored in a memory, when the differential data does not exceed Tmax, the differential data is defined as the low-order time data, only the low-order time data and the value data are stored in memories 27, 28 by the time storage and control circuit 23, therefore, the quantity of data to be stored is suppressed as minimum and high speed access to the information is realized.
