<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a large modulation degree and stable modulation operation in a surface plasmon optical modulating device. SOLUTION: This surface plasmon optical modulating device consists of a dielectric block 11 arranged in such a manner that the light 10 to be modulated propagates in the block to be incident on a face 11a at the total reflection angle, a metal film 20, an optical functional film 13 which changes its refractive index by irradiation of light and which is formed on the film 20, and a driving light source 15 to irradiate the optical functional film 13 with modulation driving light 14. The metal film 20 consists of a silver film, and an oxygen cutting film 21 is formed on the optical functional film 13.</p> |
