PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rosin-based emulsion size simultaneously meeting excellent sizing property in a wide pH range and excellent emulsion stability by dispersing a rosin-based resin with an emulsifying agent comprising a specific cationic resin in water. SOLUTION: This rosin-based emulsion size is obtained by dispersing at least one rosin-based resin A selected from the group consisting of rosins, fortified rosins, rosin esters and fortified rosin esters with a cationic alkyleneimine- modified polyamideamine resin B as an emulsifying agent in a weight ratio of (1/9) to (1/18) in water. The polyamideamine resin B is obtained by the condensation reaction of a dicarboxylic acid with a polyalkylenepolyamine to form a basic polyamideamine, by the graft copolymerization of the basic polyamideamine with a 1,2-alkyleneimine and by the crosslinking reaction with a bifunctional compound. The above size is added inside to pulp slurry or is applied outside as a surface size on paper both in order to produce paper suitable for electrophotography and ink jet printing. |
