PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remotely detect a salt-contaminated insulator, etc., for a high- voltage transmission line without touching the insulator. SOLUTION: This device is composed of a laser beam source 2 for applying a laser beam 3 to an insulator 4 to be detected, and a Na-D line detection means 1 for detecting the Na-D line generated by salt on the surface of the insulator 4 to be detected becoming a plasma state when a spark is generated on the surface by the application of laser beam 3. The remote detection of a salt-contaminated state of the insulator 4 in a high-voltage transmission system allows only the salt-contaminated insulator 4 to be cleaned, so that the cleaning operation can be done efficiently when the salt damage is caused.
