PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image reader that surely outputs image information read from an original in an excellent state externally. SOLUTION: In the case of controlling stop and restart of original scanning by a read means 120 on the basis of an idle capacity of a storage means, a time interval from stop to restart of the read means 120 is reserved at least for a prescribed time. Thus, even when the read means 120 is stopped due to a deficient idle capacity of the storage means and vibration takes place, since the image reading is not started until the vibration is restored, the image information read from an original is not affected by vibration of the read means (disturbed image or the like).
