PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens by which the miniaturization of a camera is intended, which has a high variable power ratio, whose telephoto ratio of a wide angle end and a telephoto end is made small, whose lens constitution is simple and whose size at a collapsing time is made short. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is constituted of a first positive group G1, a second positive group G2 and a third negative group G3, and each lens group is moved to an object side at the time of variable power from the wide angle end to the telephoto end and also is moved so that an interval between the first group G1 and the second group G2 is increased and that between the second group G2 and the third group G3 is reduced, and the first group G1 possesses at least one set of a negative lens and a positive lens, and the second group G2 incorporates an aperture diaphragm and possesses at least one set of the negative lens and the positive lens, and also the third group G3 incorporates one set of the positive lens and the negative lens, and satisfies the condition of an actual air interval between the second group G2 and the third group G3, that of the focal distance of the third group G3 and that of the variable power ratio carried by the third group G3.
