PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To test a tire by as a simple method as possible by mounting a wheel having the tire at a predetermined shaft, manually rotatably advancing the wheel by an amount of a testing step, and conducting a predetermined test using an interference image. SOLUTION: This apparatus for testing a tire for detecting a fault of the tire from an interference image by coherent lights before and after changing a pneumatic pressure of the tire comprises a rotatable shaft 24 in which a wheel can be fixed and movable in a lengthwise direction. After the wheel mounting the tire to be tested is moved together with the shaft 24 to adjust an interval to a testing head 22, a crank 50 is operated to align the head 22 in a vertical direction. When the wheel is manually rotated at a predetermined amount and its next portion is moved to a testing position of a front surface of the head 22, its rotation is mechanically locked. After the tire is executed for a predetermined test, the above operations are repeated. For example, an image of the tire by a camera disposed at the head 22 is displayed on a monitor 20.
