PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and reliably determine refuse quality by determining process parameters for estimating refuse quality from heat generation and moisture content of refuse. SOLUTION: Process parameters for estimating refuse quality are determined from heating value Hu and moisture content of refuse. In order to determine the heat generation Hu and humidity A of refuse, mass flow rate F Mull is detected, at first by individual refuse crane chargers. The heating value Hu of refuse is then calculated in relation to a given quantity of heat, based on the mass flow rate to refuse and the quantity of generated raw steam. Furthermore, a flue gas humidity A is determined by temperature measurement based on the physical relation, and then the moisture content A of refuse is determined based on a statistical relation. Subsequently, a refuse quality is determined from the heating value Hu and humidity A of refuse and used for automatic regulation of combustion.
