PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the influences under various environments and to realize long lifetime by suitably surface treating respective units of a refrigerator according to its using environment. SOLUTION: A Stirling refrigerator is constituted by providing a cold head 10 obtained by engaging a displacer 12 within a cylinder 11 for forming a closed space together with a gas compressor 1, having a piston 3 engaged within a cylinder 2 and a cylinder holder 14 and connecting a compression chamber of the compressor 1 to an invalid space of the head 10 through a capillary tube 19. An expansion space formed of the displacer 12 in the cylinder 11 communicates with the invalid space through a gas channel, and a gas flowing in the channel is made to heat exchange with a cool storage agent. In this case, at least one of the outer periphery of the compressor 1 and an outer periphery of the head 10 is surface treated with a gloss or matt nickel film to guarantee use under various environments.
