PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for recovering glasses contained in residue as resources while reducing residue to be subjected to incineration or landfil treatment. SOLUTION: A residue reducing treatment apparatus 1 is equipped with an impact crusher 11, a dust removing means having a cyclone 12 and an exhaust device 13 and a rotary sieve 15. Residue W is repeatedly struck by the impact crusher 11 to granulate glasses in the residue (crushing step) and dust is removed from the residue containing granulated glass pieces by the dust removing device (dust removing step) and the residue is sorted into granulated glass pieces becoming resources and other residue such as cans, metal pieces, paper pieces or plastic pieces not granulated by impact force by the rotary sieve (particle size sorting step).
