A spectrometer includes means for providing a monochromatic beam scanning a specified waveband, and means for dividing the monochromatic beam into at least two separate beams. The first beam (19) is transmitted by the unknown sample (20), and the second beam (23) is transmitted by a reference medium (24). The spectrometer is characterised by means for simultaneously recording the spectral patterns representing the spectra of the unknown sample (20) and the reference medium (24). The reference medium must have a characteristic spectrum including remarkable maxima and/or minima at known fixed frequencies. The simultaneous recordings of sample and reference spectra must be performed during each single scan, and are correlated in oder to determine the wave numbers in the spectrum of the unknown sample from the spectrum of the reference medium. |
